Lakewood Environmental Arts Foundation, Inc. 501(c)(3) (aka LEAF) was created in May 2014 by E. David Morris of Atlanta, Georgia. David worked for many years with another large non-profit in Atlanta doing food drives weekly, but eventually it dissolved due to inadequate funds and support. David decided to start his own charity to continue the great work, and what better place than Lakewood!
Lakewood neighborhood is one of many “food deserts” in the Atlanta area, and there is a desperate need for assistance providing good, nourishing foods to those who live in and near Lakewood. David has been investing his own money for years with little help from outside sources. He even picked up, delivered and distributed the food for the past 4-5 years using his personal vehicles and trailers. Over time, LEAF evolved and grew into what it is today. Every week new participants and volunteers join us in the effort to provide food to those in need.
Cassie M. started with us about 3 years ago as a resident volunteer, and is now in charge of day-to-day operations; management of the garden, greenhouse, and compost; and coordination of food distribution and volunteers. She has been an integral part of making LEAF what it is today, and we love her for all of the hard work she does every day! There are many other volunteers and residents that deserve credit for their contributions and commitment, and to all of them we say “THANK YOU for your continued support!”
